Seaside at sunrise | All the reasons why you should consider a family photo session at sunrise

Family photo sessions at sunrise make my photographer heart sing! So I want to tell – and show – you all the reasons why I think you should consider getting to the seaside at sunrise for your next session.

Have you heard of the term ‘golden hour’ before? It is basically the Holy Grail for photographers – the first hour of light following sunrise and the hour leading into sunset. It creates beautiful, soft light and means there are less harsh shadows in our images. This is why when you enquire with a photographer about an outdoor family photo session, you are typically given these times to choose from.

Many of my clients opt for an afternoon session as it usually a convenient time, but if you’re an early bird like me – or you have little ones that rise before the sun, also like me – then you should seriously consider experiencing the magic of a sunrise session at the seaside!

Here are a few reasons to encourage you to set that alarm:

Seeing the sun rise is a beautiful way to start the day

It is one of my favourite things. Not only will you get to experience the moment, but it will be forever preserved in time through the images we create. And once your session is finished, you’re already up and at ’em so you can head straight out for breaky (or grab a second coffee!) with the fam.

Avoid the crowds on our busy Gold Coast beaches

Many people are still home in bed, snoozing their alarms, apart from a handful of enthusiastic morning strollers. It’s a great option if you’re a bit wary of the crowds but also want the option of a photo session on our iconic Gold Coast beaches.

Calmer conditions

Early mornings are generally much calmer – the water is usually glassy and there is less chance of wind. Well, and the little ones seem to be a bit more mellow and snuggly with mum and dad – at least for the start of the session!
