The best Gold Coast photoshoot locations | Curated by Photos by Jordi
Over the years working as a family, maternity and newborn photographer on the Gold Coast, I have photographed along every stretch of our golden sandy beaches so I can confidently present to you the best Gold Coast photoshoot locations along our beautiful coastline.
Starting from the northern Gold Coast and working my way south, these are my top picks for beach photo sessions!
1. Main Beach
With an endless maze of private dune areas, Main Beach is a photographer’s wonderland! Explore the rolling sand dunes before venturing out on the open beach. This is a great spot to capture a wide shot of the Surfer’s Paradise skyline, a particular favourite for holidaying families!
Pros: Convenient location for families based on the northern Gold Coast or Brisbane, generally less crowds.
2. Miami Beach
A particular favourite of mine for sunrise photo sessions. Nestled just north of the Mick Schamburg Park Lookout, this location offers up beautiful variety, incorporating the headland as the perfect backdrop to your family photos.
Pros: Easy to access central location, access to amenities, lots of variety.
3. North Burleigh
Offering the picturesque backdrop of the Mick Schamburg Park Lookout from the Burleigh side, this is another great location that will provide plenty of variety for your photo session. From shots amongst the dunes without too many high rises crowding the background, to dipping your toes in the ocean and exploring around the rocks of the headland, this is a crowd favourite for families.
Pros: Easy to access central location, access to amenities, lots of variety, explore around the rocks on low tide.
4. Tallebudgera Beach
There is a little hidden gem here, tucked up next to the creekside paradise that is Tallebudgera estuary. A private dune area overflowing with beautiful seaside greenery compliments the wide open beach with Burleigh Hill as the backdrop.
Pros: Access to amenities, generally private central beach location.
5. Currumbin Alley
A perfect option for both sunrise and sunset photo sessions. Characterised by the distinctive Currumbin Rock, you’ll have the option to explore to unique dune area or explore amongst the rock shelf – or both!
Pros: Access to amenities, generally private dune area at a central beach location, lots of variety.
6. Tugun
A quieter stretch of beach away from looming high rises, this is a popular spot for many families to avoid the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast’s busier beaches. As simple yet charming spot to snuggle amongst the dunes and explore the wide open beach without the crowds.
Pros: Generally quieter location, wide open beach with easy access.
7. Kirra Beach
Offering a unique perspective of the Gold Coast sunset, Kirra beach offers wide open beach dunes with the full Gold Coast skyline subtly filling the background.
Pros: Generally quieter location, access to amenities.
8. Rainbow Bay
One of the Gold Coast’s iconic beaches that certainly doesn’t disappoint! The key feature at this location are the beautiful rocks at the base of Rainbow Bay lookout, complimented by the setting sun across the bay.
Pros: Easy beach access, access to amenities, unique perspective of the setting sun.
9. Fingal Head
While not technically a Gold Coast beach, located just across the border in Northern New South Wales, Fingal Head is an idyllic beach location for photo sessions. With the option of photographing on either side of Fingal Headland and on top of the headland itself, it’s the perfect choice for those wanting a lot of variety in their session.
Pros: Great option for incorporating greenery, can often be a quieter option, lots of variety.
10. Hastings Point
Again, while not actually located on the Gold Coast, Hastings Point is a forever favourite spot of mine to photograph at and is definitely worth the extra distance travelled. The vast unspoiled coastline falls away into the distance, allowing for the most beautiful wide shots.
Pros: Generally quieter location with lots of variety.
