Growing with The Byrne Family
I first met Rhea and her family in 2021 after the arrival of their little boy, Harry. We took to the beach amidst a light sun shower and were treated to a beautiful rainbow at the end of our photography session. Fast-forward to 2023 where I have had the honour of documenting their growing family yet again, with the arrival of their sweet daughter, Lucy. Currumbin Beach at sunrise leant us the perfect backdrop for capturing their family of four.
I always feel so honoured when families choose me as their photographer, but even more so when they come back time and time again! I asked Rhea for her feedback on her experience with me and her perspective about choosing me as her photographer and being in front of the camera.
“Jordi captured the most special and spectacular photos of my family. I adore her ability to capture the heart and spirit of a family, whilst working in such a calm and unassuming manner. You know she’s a professional when your husband—who had very little excitement for the shoot—commented on her clear direction and ability to ease any awkwardness. Cannot wait to get more photos again.”
Questions and Answers with Rhea
Q: Why did you choose Jordi as your photographer?
To be honest, I didn’t even consider newborn photos throughout my first pregnancy. I mean… you’re expecting me to pay a sizeable amount of money, to awkwardly pose in front of a camera? No, thank you!
It was only after Harry was born that I felt compelled to capture such a special and fleeting moment. In one of my many 3:00 am scrolling sessions, I stumbled across Jordi’s page; I was incredibly drawn to her laidback, natural style and the warmth of her images.
Unsurprisingly, my husband, Owen, was somewhat less impressed by my expensive late night ideas, but it didn’t take too much convincing. After all, we know it’s rather difficult — and usually futile — trying to argue with a postpartum mother.
Two years later, it was just a given that we would book another round of photos to celebrate the arrival of our daughter, Lucy.
Q: What did you like most about your session experience with Jordi?
The complete ease of interacting with Jordi.
I am confident that Owen and I are two of the most awkward people to ever be placed in front of a camera — I consistently offer double chins, hunched shoulders and awkward embraces. Yet, Jordi allowed both shoots to organically unfold whilst still providing uncomplicated feedback on where to stand and how to reposition. As she was shooting, we just continued chatting away about all the things!
Q: What was your favourite moment from your recent session with Jordi?
Definitely experiencing a sunrise session! It’s such an incredible way to start your day, and it meant that there were very few people around to make us feel awkward. Or potentially laugh at us.
Q: What is your favourite image and why?
I absolutely adore the individual shots of us holding our babies. It was never our intention to ‘recreate’ the images two years apart, but I look back at those pictures and I know exactly how I felt in that moment, looking down in awe at their tiny little bodies sleeping so peacefully.

Q: Do you have any advice for families looking to book a family photography session?
Choose a location that best reflects your family. For us, we chose specific seaside locations that have the most sentimental value to us. I love that I have photos of 2.5 year old Harry running down the same beach where he also practised his first steps.
Q: Is there anything else that you would like to add?
I understand that preparing for a baby is expensive, but I’ve never regretted my decision to invest in a quality photographer. Both of my parents are no longer earthside, and I’d do anything to have more images of my own childhood that captures the authenticity of our relationships, rather than just awkwardly posed photos parading questionable 90’s fashion. I like to think that Jordi’s images will be something my own children will cherish.
